Mage's Kentucky Derby

I used charcoals to achieve this drawing. It took about a month to complete and I was trying out some new paper. The paper is beautiful, but doesn't quite take the abuse that some other papers I've worked with can take, so I couldn't layer as much. I kind of had to get it right first and move on, so it was a lot of fun learning how to work with. I took the photo that I used for reference. I work as a photographer at Churchill Downs, so I was on the track just past the finish! Amazing race and I'm happy to get to capture it in art.
