This is a highly detailed drawing of a close-cropped horse’s head using Nero pencils. (Nero pencils are charcoal pencils containing a touch of oil in them.) With its engraved silver concho, the headstall adds elegance and interest to the drawing. I wanted to capture both the horse’s gentle expression and the intricate details of its headstall in a nod to the rugged beauty and spirit of working ranch horses and classic Western craftsmanship.
