Wild horses at Yellow Creek

The reason for this particular title is because the painting is about color and the beautiful form of horses. The forms of the horses are painted while I recall how it felt to sit on them, brush and care for them. When painting, I am in the moment of poetic orchestration, creating balance and harmony. I have to go inside myself, like sitting at my favorite fishing hole alone with the birds, moving water and grasses, and where nature speaks in the quiet. That is where the artist creates from.
I chose colors to compliment the red and grey horses, grey so that when you stare at the yellow for instance, then look at the grey, the grey takes on a tinge of violet or a cooler shade of grey. If you focus on the green awhile, then move your eye to the red horse, the red seems even more intense.
In the painting, Blue Horses at Hells Canyon, I used blue because I believe the horses to be a spiritual animal, capable of giving much love and emotional support to humans. added for contrast. They are very conscious of their surroundings and able to survive in the wild. I make these paintings to create more awareness of the beauty and nobility of these animals and help to maintain their survival.
