The Messengers

This piece is a graphite pencil rendering in which I was seeking to capture some dynamic movement of my favorite muse and subject matter; the Horse. As I started drawing this image I felt that the horse needed a companion and I was inspired to add the hawk. Horses have literally been a mode of transportation and transformation for human kind. Symbolically I wish to go beyond the physical and use horses to represent transcendence. Hawks have quite a bit of symbolic associations as well, including one of messenger. My hopes for creating equine inspired art is to use my creations to draw attention to a message of equine welfare issues and inspire a reverence for the relationships that we have with these animals and with nature. I feel as though there is a movement happening in the equestrian realms, and the subjects of this image represent the message as "The Messengers."
